THE REVIEW PROCESS The entire review
process is electronically driven - resulting in the publication and global
distribution of accepted manuscripts within 4 to 6 weeks of submission. A
proprietary Online Submission Program allows individuals to submit their
manuscripts over the Internet. The submission software automatically formats the
manuscript for immediate review and publication. Section Editors choose Review
Editors "online". The Review Editors then view articles and submit their
reviews "online", with no "down time". Authors can monitor the
progress of the review of their article by a private Web page. Review
Editors´ evaluations can be viewed "online" and, in addition,
revisions can be made "online". Once accepted, password protection is
simply removed from the manuscript, and it is "published", thereby
becoming immediately available to researchers around the world.
EDITOR The Editor of Sleep Research
Online is Michael H. Chase. He is currently President of the World Federation of
Sleep Research Societies and has published in the field of sleep research for
over a quarter of a century. The duties of the Editor are to oversee all aspects
of SRO, to assure that the online submission, review and publication processes
are carried out in a proper manner and to make sure that SRO is maintained as a
research journal that contains articles of the highest caliber. The Editor is
responsible for coordinating the activities of the Honorary Editor-in-Chief,
Associate Editors, Section Editors, Review Editors and for all aspects of the
"publication" of SRO on the World Wide Web.
EDITORIAL BOARD The Honorary Editor-in-Chief is Michel Jouvet.
He is an individual of great international stature in the sleep field. His
presence, as Honorary Editor-in-Chief, is designed to convey the importance of
basic research and reflect in SRO, the creativity and dedicated pursuit of
critical questions that have been the hallmarks of his career in sleep research.
The three Associate Editors, Michel Billiard, Thomas Roth and Mircea Steriade,
are also world-renowned leaders in the field. The duties of the Associate
Editors are to set policy, adjudicate problems, and assist in the selection of
Section Editors and Review Editors.
The Section Editors, whose primary function
is to select Review Editors to evaluate manuscripts, are highly respected
individuals that are knowledgeable in specific areas of basic and clinical sleep
research, such as phylogeny, anatomy, neurophysiology, pharmacology, molecular
biology, genetics, circadian rhythms, etc. Because the Section Editors are
individuals who are actively working in the fields from which they select Review
Editors, authors can be assured that the selection of Review Editors will be made
by knowledgeable individuals who are aware of and sensitive to the political and
scientific interactions that take place among researchers in the field.
REVIEW BOARD Members of the Review Board (i.e., Review Editors) consist of
individuals who are carrying out research in the highly focused areas in which
they review articles. They have also agreed to participate in the SRO electronic
review process, which includes a review time of seventy-two hours for each
article.
MANAGING EDITOR
The Managing Editor of Sleep Research Online coordinates the journal's
day-to-day operations and oversees the submission, review and publication of all
articles. Close contact is maintained with Section Editors and Review Editors as
well as authors in order to ensure the shortest possible time between submission
and publication. In addition, all inquiries related to manuscript
submission, the review process, etc. are answered.
